In a release issued to the media on Friday, the NSBO said, โ€œNational Hydro-electrical Power Corporation (NHPC)โ€™s decision to restart the dam construction is condemnable.โ€

โ€œIt would pose a threat to downstream areas of Lakhimpur, Dhemaji and Majuli,โ€ the release added.

NSBSO was referring to the stand taken by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on hydro-electric projects in the state.

Khandu recently scrapped 22 hydro-electrical power projects in the state citing safety reasons.

โ€œAssam CM should also follow the footsteps of Pema Khandu for the interest of people and scrap LSHEP,โ€ it added.
