Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla on Friday said the state will be the first to achieve โ€œzero malaria statusโ€ in the country by 2021, nine years ahead of the national target of 2030.

Talking to reporters the Governor said, โ€œSeveral programmes of the State government along with the efforts of the local communities of years will make it possible.โ€

โ€œThe state will become the first state in the country to achieve zero-malaria-status and we will achieve this in 2021- nine years ahead of the national target which is 2030,โ€ she reiterated.

โ€œHowever, to achieve this we need to work diligently as there are several water bodies that serve as breeding grounds for malarial mosquitoes,โ€ she said.

โ€œThe key is to make people aware of keeping the environment clean and eliminate the communicable disease,โ€ Heptulla added.
