In order to contain the spread of coronavirus, the district magistrate of East Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya has imposed โ€˜night curfewโ€™ in the district with effect from Sunday.

The night curfew across the East Jaintia Hills district will remain effective from 7 pm to 7 am, said the order, issued by the district magistrate, F.M. Dopth, on Sunday.

โ€œWhereas, in order to contain prevent and control the outbreak of Coronovirus (COVID-19) in East Jaintia Hills district, Meghalaya and also keeping in view of the emerging scenario and safety of the general public and to avoid any outbreak of an epidemic,โ€ the order said.

The order said, โ€œin exercise of the powersโ€ conferred upon the district magistrate, under section 144 CrPC, F.M. Dopth promulgated the night curfew with effect from March 22, 2020, from 7 pm to 7 am for the incoming vehicles from Assam en route to the district via Malidor area.

โ€œIn view of the urgency of the matter this order is being passed ex-parte and shall come into force with immediate effect and until further orders,โ€ the district magistrate said in the order.
