Amid a spike in COVID-19 cases without any travel history in Guwahati, Assam government has decided to impose a 14-day ward-wise lockdown in the city from Tuesday night.

Addressing a press conference here, Kamrup (Metro) deputy commissioner Biswajit Pegu said that a 14-day complete lockdown will be imposed in11 wards in Guwahati with effect from 9 pm on Tuesday night.

DC Pegu said the administration has decided to impose ward-wise lockdown in Guwahati to prevent community transmission of Covid-19.

He said that ward number 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, 15 and 16 will come under the purview of the lockdown.

Assamโ€™s capital Guwahati recorded at least 144 COVID-19 cases without any travel history or traced contact source.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, admitting that the COVID-19 situation in the city is โ€œgrimโ€, on Monday had said that at least 150 people have tested COVID-19 positive in the city since June 15.

โ€œOf these, only 37 had travel history,โ€ Sarma had said.

The DC said that shops dealing with grocery, vegetables, fruits, dairy products and animal fodder will remain open from 10 am to 5 pm in the wards , where lockdown will come into force.

Prohibited activities during lockdown period:  

  • Movement of individuals shall remain strictly prohibited in the specified areas.
  • All government offices, offices of autonomous/subordinate offices and private offices shall remain closed.
  • All business/commercial establishments, shops and trade activities shall remain closed.
  • All Industrial establishments shall remain closed.
  • All public transport services shall remain suspended.
  • Movement of all Private vehicles is banned.
  • All hospitality services shall remain suspended.
  • All educational, research, training, coaching institutions shall remain closed.
  • All places of worship shall remain closed for public. No religious congregation will be permitted without any exception.
  • Allsocial/political/sports/entertainment/academic/cultural/religious functions, gathering shall be barred.
  • Not more than 20 persons will be permitted in case of funerals.
  • Spitting in public places is banned and will be punishable with fine, as may be prescribed by the local authority in accordance with its laws, rules or regulations.
  • Consumption and sale of liquor, paan, gutka, tobacco etc. in public places are prohibited.
