The development was confirmed by HD Devegowda himself on Wednesday.

Along with Devegowda, his wife has also tested positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, HD Devegowda and his wife have opted for home isolation along with other family members.

87-year-old HD Devegowda has further urged all those who came in contact with him in the past few day to undergo COVID-19 testing.

โ€œMy wife Chennamma and I have tested positive for COVID-19. We are self-isolating along with other family members. I request all those who came in contact with us over the last few days to get themselves tested. I request party workers and well-wishers not to panic,โ€ Devegowda tweeted.

Meanwhile, prayers and wishes started to pour in as soon as the news of HD Devegowda having tested COVID-19 positive broke out.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to HD Devegowda and wished him and his wife a speedy recovery.

โ€œSpoke to former PM HD Devegowda and enquired about his and his wifeโ€™s health. Praying for their quick recovery.โ€ PM Modi tweeted.

HD Devegowda also thanked PM Modi for calling him and enquiring him on his health condition.

โ€œI am grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for calling and enquiring after my health. I am also deeply moved by his offer to get me treated in any hospital of my choice in any city. I assured him that I am being looked after well in Bangalore, but will keep him informed,โ€ HD Devegowda tweeted.

Meanwhile, the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic in India is going โ€œfrom bad to worse,โ€ a senior government official has said.

โ€œWe are facing an increasingly severe and intense situation, more so surely in some districts. But the whole country is potentially at risk,โ€ Vinod K Paul, chairman of the governmentโ€™s expert panel on vaccine administration said at the weekly health ministry briefing on Tuesday.
