The district health services on Thursday organized a special session of Covid-19 vaccination for the elderly and differently abled persons at the urban health centre of Mangaldai in Assamโ€™s Darrang district.

77 elderly persons and differently abled individuals received the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine during the special session.

Many of these people were reportedly facing difficulty in availing the vaccine because of a huge rush in vaccination centres as well as a shortage in adequate stocks of the second dose of the vaccine.

โ€œThese people were having difficulties in taking their jabs due to long queues in the normal session and keeping this in mind we organized this special,โ€ said Nirmal Kumar Beria, additional chief medical and health officer of Darrang.

A total of over 25, 300 second doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered in Darrang, of which 641 doses were administered during the past three days.

A total of 1,02,000 first doses of the vaccine have so far been administered.

The district has recorded a very marginal 1.26 per cent wastage of vaccines.
