Troopers of the Assam Rifles have seized an illegal consignmemt of areca nut from Mizoramโ€™s Champhai district. 

The seized consignment of 780 bags of areca nut is worth over Rs 1.7 crores.

โ€œThe operation was carried out by a joint team of Assam Rifles and Customs Department, Champhai based on specific information,โ€ the Assam Rifles said in a statement. 

The statement adds: โ€œApproximate cost of the recovered Areca Nuts is Rs 1,70,44,800/-.โ€

The consignment was seized from Khawbung โ€“ Zawlsei area in Champhai district of Mizoram. 

Security forces have been seizing massive consignments of illegal sumstances in Mizoramโ€™s Champhai district in recent times. 

โ€œOngoing smuggling of drugs is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border,โ€ the Assam Rifles further said.
