Troops of Assam Rifles have apprehended two Myanmar nationals with arms and ammunition in Mizoramโ€™s Lawngtlai district.

Based on specific input, Lunglei Battalion of Assam Rifles launched an operation on Wednesday at Sekul-Lui River in between Village Zochachua and Varang of Lawngtlai district.

โ€œThe team had specific information of exchange of weapons near Gen area Laitlang, right on Indo-Myanmar border. The Assam Rifles team along with Police representatives laid a trap along the Sekul-Lui river.

โ€œUpon the approach of a boat on the river, the team stopped it and carried out a detailed search of the boat and recovered an automatic rifle of Myanmarese origin, a magazine and 26 rounds of ammunition,โ€ Assam Rifles said in a statement.

The Assam Rifles later handed over the arrested Myanmar nationals to Mizoram police.

โ€œThis operation is a huge setback for all anti-national activists. The operationโ€™s success would go a long way in the establishment of peace and harmony along the Indo Myanmar Border,โ€ said the statement.
