The Nagaland Assembly has โunanimously resolvedโ to demand the Centre for repeal of the armed forces special powers act (AFSPA) from the Northeast.ย
โThe Nagaland Legislative Assembly unanimously resolves to demand that the Government of India repeal the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 from the Northeast and especially Nagaland,โ the resolution moved by chief ministerย Neiphiuย Rio read.ย

The Nagaland Assembly has also sought apology from โappropriate authorityโ and โassurance of justiceโ against those responsible for the killing of innocent civilians atย Otingย village in Mon district of Nagaland earlier this month.ย
โThe Nagaland Legislative Assembly vehemently condemns the massacre that took place inย Oting-Tiru village area in Mon district on 4thย December 2021 in the indiscriminate firing by the 21 Para Special Forces of the Indian Army in which 13 innocent people were killed,โ the resolution added.ย

The Nagaland Assembly further appealed the โcitizens of Mon district, its civil societies, the citizens of the state andย mass basedย organisations to extend cooperation to the government and its agencies in our collective efforts to demand justice and restore normalcy in the interest of all the citizensโ.ย
The resolution said: โThe House appreciates and supports citizens and civil society organisations in their demand for repealing of AFSPA.โย
The Nagaland Assembly also urged the negotiating groups in the Indo-Naga political dialogue to โbring theย talks to a logical conclusion by reaching a settlement that is honourable, inclusive and acceptable at the earliestโ.ย
