Guwahati: Former Arunachal Pradesh MLA Yadap Apang, wife of former Chief Minister Gegong Apang, passed away at her residence in Pasighat, East Siang district, on December 25 due to age-related health issues, family sources said. She was 71.
She is survived by her husband and six children, including former Union Minister Omak Apang.
Yadap Apang was elected to the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1995 as a Congress candidate and was known for her dedication to public service and engagement with local communities during her tenure.
Beyond politics, she was actively involved in media and publishing, serving as a director of Arunachal Times Publications Pvt Ltd, which publishes The Arunachal Times.
She also contributed to several community welfare and educational initiatives across the state. Her last rites are scheduled for Sunday.
Governor KT Parnaik expressed condolences, calling her an eminent social worker and devoted public representative, and remembered her as a compassionate woman who served people with sincerity, dedication, and dignity.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu also mourned her passing, describing her as a committed public representative and gracious personality in a post on X, and extended condolences to the family.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein remembered her as a devoted public servant who worked with sincerity and compassion, offering prayers for strength and peace to the bereaved family.
Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bosiram Siram visited the family to pay his respects. On behalf of the Indian National Congress and the APCC, he highlighted Yadap Apangโs contributions to public welfare and her long-standing association with Congress values.
He described her as a respected leader and compassionate public figure, committed to democracy, social justice, and womenโs empowerment.
Siram also recognized her as a source of inspiration for women leaders, especially from the Adi community, and acknowledged her lasting impact on the Congress movement in Arunachal Pradesh.
