Imphal: Security forces dismantled a temporary camp allegedly set up by suspected anti-social elements/insurgents and recovered a cache of arms, ammunition and explosives during a counter-insurgency operation in Manipur, police reported on Friday.
Law enforcers unearthed hidden weapons at the Langdum Nungjengbi area and surrounding locations under Irilbung Police Station in Imphal East district during a flash operation carried out over the past 36 hours. A sniffer dog was also deployed to detect explosives and other military-grade items. Sensing the approaching security forces, the insurgents fled the area.
Though no arrests were made, the security forces concluded the operation with the recovery of the following items:
i) 01 (one) locally made .32 pistol with magazine,
ii) 01 (one) 12-bore SBBL gun,
iii) 01 (one) rifle,
iv) 02 (two) No. 36 hand grenades,
v) 135 (one hundred thirty-five) rounds of ammunition of different calibres,
vi) 02 (two) lathode shells,
vii) 04 (four) pompi shells,
viii) 06 (six) magazines of different arms,
ix) 03 (three) detonators,
x) 04 (four) 7.62 mm charger clips,
xi) 01 (one) tube launcher, and
xii) 02 (two) Baofeng wireless radio sets.
The recovered items were later handed over to the concerned police stations for further legal proceedings. Police added that cases under relevant sections of law have also been registered in this connection.
