Imphal: A hand grenade was found at the gate of the Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Lilong, under the Lilong police station in Manipur’s Thoubal district on Friday morning, officials reported.
This is the first time an explosive has been planted threatening the general public in the state this year.
The grenade is suspected to have been placed by unknown persons with the intent to kill, injure, or intimidate family members, police said. Local passersby reported the matter to the police.
Upon receiving the information, a police team from the Lilong police station rushed to the spot around 7 am to secure the area.
Later, a bomb disposal squad from the Manipur police arrived, and the grenade was safely defused around 10 am.
Police said the motive behind the bomb remains unknown, and no group or individual has claimed responsibility so far.
A case has been registered under Sections 109/351(3)/3(5) of the BNS and Section 4 of the Explosive Substances Act at the relevant police station.
