Imphal: Security forces arrested two individuals along with arms and ammunition in separate raids conducted at different locations in Manipur’s Imphal East district on Friday.

Based on intelligence inputs, Karam Mani Meitei (35), a resident of Thongju Part-II, Pichu Lampak Ningombam Leirak, under Singjamei police station (PS) in Imphal East district, was apprehended from his residence.

A 9 mm pistol with a magazine was seized from him during the first phase of the operation.

Following his arrest and information obtained during interrogation, the second phase of the operation was conducted, leading to the arrest of another alleged arms smuggler.

Thoudam Ranjan Singh (41) of Leimakhong Mapal Mamang Leikai, Imphal East, was apprehended from his locality under Lamlai PS, Imphal East district.

Reports stated that nine rounds of 9 mm ammunition were seized from him.

The police added that the arrestees were booked under the Arms Act of 1959, as amended by the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, for further legal proceedings.
