Imphal: In a series of coordinated operations, the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police detected and neutralised Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) along the Indo-Myanmar border, officials said.

Acting on intelligence inputs regarding the presence of anti-social elements, a joint team, assisted by a sniffer dog, conducted an operation near Border Pillars 72 and 73 in Chandel district, close to the LH Zangnomphai area. During the area domination and sanitisation operation, three IEDs were recovered in situ, defused, and subsequently neutralised.

Security has been stepped up in the area following repeated breaches, including the destruction of about 120 metres of newly installed fencing near Border Pillar 62 on January 16, 2026, as well as incidents near pillars 67 and 68 in December 2025.

Authorities said patrols have been intensified, with the Manipur Police investigating the breaches and Assam Rifles overseeing border fencing. The operations form part of a broader effort to complete a 1,643 km fenced border aimed at curbing illegal cross-border movement, drug trafficking, and arms smuggling.
