Imphal: As part of the 37th National Road Safety Month being observed in India, the Manipur Government intensified road safety awareness activities to promote responsible driving and reduce traffic accidents, resulting in significant fines.

The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways organizes National Road Safety Month annually in January to promote road safety awareness and reduce accidents.

The theme of this yearโ€™s campaign is โ€˜Sadak Suraksha, Jeevan Rakshaโ€™, highlighting vital road safety rules and guidelines across the nation.

Manipur Police reported that from January 19 to January 25, 2026, 188 challans were issued to motor vehicle offenders, collecting Rs 2,74,000 in fines.

From January 18 to January 24, 2026, Manipur Police detained one vehicle for violating traffic rules and removed tinted films from 11 vehicles.

From January 5 to January 11, 2026, 77 challans were issued to motor vehicle offenders, amounting to a total of Rs 74,500.

From January 4 to January 10, 2026, Manipur Police detained one vehicle for violating traffic rules and removed tinted films from three vehicles.

Road safety drives are being conducted at multiple locations under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police and the Traffic Control Wing, combining enforcement measures with on-the-spot awareness sessions.

The campaigns particularly highlight compliance with the Motor Vehicles Act and include โ€œNo Drink and Driveโ€ checks after 10 PM, along with intensified checks on commercial vehicles.
