For the coming year, MEC announced a roadmap that includes the Mizoram Entrepreneurs’ Conference on March 27, along with quarterly entrepreneurship clinics, workshops, and networking sessions.

Aizawl: In a significant step to strengthen Mizoram’s private sector, the Mizoram Entrepreneurs’ Chamber (MEC) has been formally established, its leaders announced at a press conference in Aizawl on Monday.

The Chamber, led by Chairman Joseph L. Ralte and General Secretary Vanlalsiama Chhangte, outlined its vision for boosting entrepreneurship and fostering a vibrant economic ecosystem in the state. MEC emphasized the importance of close collaboration with the government to ensure that entrepreneurs are consulted in the formulation of economic development policies across departments.

“Entrepreneurship is the engine of growth for Mizoram. To drive this growth, government departments should act as facilitators, providing policies and funding, while entrepreneurs execute initiatives on the ground,” the leaders said.

For the coming year, MEC announced a roadmap that includes the Mizoram Entrepreneurs’ Conference on March 27, along with quarterly entrepreneurship clinics, workshops, and networking sessions. Ralte urged the government to allocate a dedicated budget for entrepreneurship initiatives.

The Chamber also recommended upgrading the Science and Technology wing under the Planning and Programme Implementation Department into a full-fledged department to better support innovation and business development.

Highlighting the broader goals of MEC, the leaders noted that a thriving private sector is essential to address the state’s unemployment challenge, providing youth with sustainable livelihood opportunities beyond traditional government employment.

The MEC, officially inaugurated on December 30 last year, currently comprises 43 members representing some of Mizoram’s most established private firms.
