Imphal: The Government of Manipur on Friday lifted the temporary suspension of internet services in parts of the state. The order covers Ukhrul district, Lhungtin sub-division of Kangpokpi district, and Phungyar sub-division of Kamjong district.
Joint Secretary (Home) Mayengbam Veto Singh said the state government reviewed the prevailing law and order situation. Based on the assessment, it decided to lift the internet suspension.
The government had imposed the restriction at 11:30 am on February 10 as a preventive measure in public interest.In the order, the government said it had decided to lift all forms of internet suspension in the affected areas. It added that authorities had imposed the curbs in good faith to prevent the spread of unrest.
The order also advised all internet users to refrain from activities that could disrupt services in the future. Officials said they will continue to monitor the situation closely.
Authorities had enforced the suspension after a fresh wave of violence in the Litan areas of Ukhrul district. The clashes led to large-scale arson.
More than 50 houses were reportedly destroyed. The violence followed a drunken brawl between individuals from two communities on February 7.
