Imphal: In a series of successful, coordinated operations, Assam Rifles, in close collaboration with Manipur Police Commandos, dealt a significant blow to illegal activities in the state by arresting alleged anti-social elements and recovering a massive haul of contraband and military-grade weapons, officials stated on Monday.
During a routine check on Sunday, the joint team established a mobile vehicle check post (MVCP) between Churachandpur and Kangpokpi via Noney district. During the operation, they intercepted a vehicle and recovered 23 cartons of Gudang Garam cigarettes and 65 cartons of Mond Variance cigarettes, valued at approximately Rs 2.9 crore.
Two individuals were apprehended, and the contraband, along with the vehicle, was handed over to the police for further legal proceedings.
Separately, the security forces conducted a series of targeted counter-insurgency operations across Manipur between February 7 and February 16, 2026, resulting in the seizure of arms and warlike stores.
These operations, carried out in Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Kakching, Thoubal, and Tengnoupal districts, led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, various pistols and rifles, improvised mortars, IEDs, hand grenades, ammunition, and communication devices.
Furthermore, the security forces successfully thwarted infiltration attempts along the Indo-Myanmar border.
