Imphal: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh arrived in the national capital on Saturday afternoon and proceeded directly to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram to pay his last respects to the late Vungzagin Valte.
Valte, a veteran Manipur BJP legislator representing the Thanlon Assembly Constituency, passed away at the age of 61 while under intensive medical care. He had been battling complications arising from severe injuries sustained during a mob attack amidst the ethnic violence that broke out in the state in 2023.
In a solemn display of reverence at the hospital, the Chief Minister stood in silence before the mortal remains and offered a floral tribute. The Chief Minister conveyed his deepest condolences to the grieving family and spent time interacting with them, sharing in their loss and expressing his unwavering solidarity during the hour of grief.
A prayer service was held at the premises, seeking eternal peace for the departed soul, as dignitaries and family members gathered in an atmosphere of profound mourning and collective remembrance to bid a final farewell.
The condolence meeting, held at the hospital saw the attendance of several key figures, including MLA Khashim Vashum of Chingai AC, MLA Ngursanglur Sanate of Tipaimukh AC, and prominent leaders of the Delhi-based Kuki-Zo community, alongside the bereaved relatives. The gathering underscored the significant impact Valte had on both regional politics and his community, marking a moment of unified sorrow for the representatives of the state currently stationed in the capital.
Prior to his departure from Imphal, the Chief Minister had released a formal message stating that he was profoundly saddened by the untimely demise of the legislator. He described Valte not only as a dedicated public representative but as a compassionate leader who devoted his life to the service of the people.
The Chief Minister noted that the MLAโs commitment to the welfare, progress, and holistic development of Manipur reflected a true spirit of selfless service, particularly through his efforts to strengthen infrastructure and uplift marginalized communities.
The Chief Ministerโs message further emphasized that the passing of Valte is an immense loss to the people of Thanlon and the entire state of Manipur, describing him as a sincere leader and a humble human being who served as a pillar of strength.
