Digboi: Several road projects were inaugurated in Assamโ€™s Digboi constituency ahead of the upcoming Assembly election. MLA Suren Phukan rolled out a series of newly completed roads under the Chief Ministerโ€™s Road Construction Scheme, signalling a focus on grassroots connectivity.

The inauguration drives were held in different wards and rural areas and were attended by local residents, panchayat members, social workers and officials from concerned departments.

At Bortarani village, a newly constructed road built at an approved cost of Rs 60.50 lakh was opened for public use. According to officials, the road is expected to improve transportation, especially during the monsoon season.

A link road connecting the Labour School near National Highway 37 to Jatiya Vidyalaya was also inaugurated. The project was completed at a sanctioned cost of approximately Rs 73.67 lakh and is expected to benefit students, commuters and small traders in the area.

In Shantipur Gorkha Gaon, a road project completed at a cost of nearly Rs 1.70 crore was inaugurated. Another road in Takowoni village, constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 76.16 lakh, was also opened.

In the Nazirating area, a road built from the residence of Narayan Sharma to that of Pushpalal Sharma was inaugurated. The project was completed at a cost of Rs 36.64 lakh.

A road in Bhaku Basti under the Digboi constituency, constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 54.09 lakh, was also opened during the programme.

Speaking at the events, Suren Phukan said infrastructure development remains a priority and stated that improved road connectivity helps improve access to education, healthcare and markets.

Residents in the areas said the new roads would help ease daily commuting and improve connectivity.

With the Assembly election approaching, infrastructure development is expected to be one of the key issues in the constituency.
