Manipur CM meets Amit Shah
This was the first meeting between Khemchand and the Union Home Minister since he took over as the stateโ€™s Chief Minister on February 4, 2026.

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Sunday afternoon called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in New Delhi.

This was the first meeting between Khemchand and the Union Home Minister since he took over as the stateโ€™s Chief Minister on February 4, 2026.

Khemchand was accompanied by his two Deputy Chief Ministers, Losii Dikho of the Naga Peopleโ€™s Front (NPF) and Nemcha Kipgen of the BJP. Kipgen, who hails from Kangpokpi district, is the first woman Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur.

In a post on X, Khemchand wrote, โ€œHad the privilege to call on Honโ€™ble Union Home Minister Shri @AmitShah Ji today in New Delhi, accompanied by Honโ€™ble Deputy Chief Ministers Smt. @KipgenNemcha and Shri L. Dikho. We had a detailed and constructive discussion on key issues concerning Manipur, including measures for peace, stability, rehabilitation, and progress. Honโ€™ble HM conveyed his firm assurance that the Union Government will extend every possible assistance to ensure the early resettlement and rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). On behalf of the people of Manipur, I express my sincere gratitude to Honโ€™ble HM for his continued support, guidance, and commitment towards the welfare of our state.โ€

The Union Home Minister also discussed with the three leaders from Manipur the steps taken by the new government to bridge the gap between different communities. Since the BJP-led coalition was formed, the state government has initiated several outreach programmes aimed at restoring peace and harmony.

Sources close to the Chief Minister stated that the Union Home Minister has given his approval for the expansion of the Yumnam Khemchand ministry, which is likely to take place in two or three days.

The expansion will take place once the Chief Minister returns to the state capital, Imphal. Khemchand is expected to return within two days.

Khemchand, on February 4, was sworn in as Chief Minister along with two Deputy Chief Ministers and two Cabinet Ministers. Given the 60-member Assembly, the full strength of the Council of Ministers can be up to 12 members, including the Chief Minister.

As such, seven ministerial posts remain vacant. Moreover, the portfolios of those sworn in more than two weeks ago have not yet been assigned.
