Guwahati: The Naga Peopleโs Front named senior leader K. G. Kenye as the Party Chief Whip for its legislature party in the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
The appointment was issued by the party President under Article V, Clause 10 of the NPF constitution. Kenye, who currently serves as Nagalandโs Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs, assumed the legislative role immediately from the date of the order.
This marks Kenyeโs official induction as the party chief whip in the state assembly, a position central to coordinating legislative activities for the NPF.
The first phase of Nagalandโs budget session is scheduled to begin tomorrow, March 3, and will run until March 12, covering five sittings. The opening day will feature the Governor of Nagaland, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, addressing the House.
The second phase is expected to focus on the state budget for 2026โ27, with the detailed schedule to be announced on the final day of the first phase. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will present the budget, followed by detailed discussions and deliberations.
During phase one, the assembly will consider questions and discussions on key public matters, presentation of annual administrative reports, committee reports, and other official documents. The agenda also includes introducing government and private membersโ bills, resolutions, and the Motion of Thanks debate.
Phase two will address reports from the Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG), examination of state revenue and expenditure trends, and supplementary demands for the 2025โ26 fiscal year.
Other significant items on the agenda are expected to include discussions on the FNTA agreement and demands from residents of Kohima and Dimapur to lift the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act, 1989, in their respective areas.
This budget session is notable as the first assembly meeting after the Centre, the state, and the Eastern Nagaland Peopleโs Organisation signed the Frontier Nagaland Territory Authority agreement.
This is the first budget session since the Naga Peopleโs Front and the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party merged.
