Guwahati: The second phase of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee’s (APCC) “Samay Paribartanor” yatra arrived in Dibrugarh on Sunday, drawing large crowds through foot marches and motorcycle rallies across the constituencies of Naharkatia, Duliajan, and Tingkhong.

APCC president Gaurav Gogoi led the event, beginning with prayers at Raidongia Namghar in Naharkatia. Supporters gave a warm welcome to the Congress team at Nigam Tiniali. Addressing the gathering, Gogoi stressed unity and reiterated the party’s commitment to creating a “New Greater Assam” by bringing together people from all communities, regardless of caste, religion, or background.

He described the yatra as more than a political campaign, portraying it as a direct engagement with citizens. “Our goal is to improve education and healthcare in every village, including tea garden areas. We want to empower women by supporting small businesses so they can achieve financial independence,” Gogoi said.

He also promised expanded welfare initiatives under Congress rule, with eligible women receiving benefits directly in their bank accounts without attending party meetings.

During the day, Gogoi reached out to diverse communities, lighting candles at a Ghinai Baptist Church in Dibrugarh, offering prayers at a Tai Phake shrine in Naharkatia, and visiting a Namghar in Tipling. In Duliajan, he interacted with Oil India Limited employees, local traders at Tipling Tiniali, and farmers at Kacharipathar. Supporters chanted: “Alikati Jali Dim, Borpeera Pari Dim, Eibar Congress Sarkar Ani Dim.”

Gogoi closely supervised the yatra, ensuring smooth conduct and order throughout the events. He was joined by senior party figures, including Opposition Leader Debabrata Saikia, MP Pradyut Bordoloi, former MP Paban Singh Ghatowar, former Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora, and other members of the Dibrugarh District Congress Committee.

APCC officials said the yatra is scheduled to proceed on March 2 in Tinsukia district, moving through Makum, Doomdooma, and Margherita, with Gogoi and senior party leaders at the forefront.
