Underground cadres arrested in Manipur

Imphal: In a breakthrough, two active cadres of different underground groups allegedly involved in kidnapping cases were arrested along with Rs 1.89 lakh in cash during separate operations in two districts of Manipur on Saturday, police reported on Sunday.

A joint team of central and state forces arrested an active cadre of the Peopleโ€™s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipakโ€“Progressive (PREPAK-Pro), Laishram Inaotomba Singh (48), a resident of Achanbigei Thongkong Makha Leikai in Imphal East district, from his locality.

A cash amount of Rs 1,89,000 and a mobile phone were seized from him. He is reportedly involved in extortion and kidnapping cases.

In a second operation, an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Partyโ€“Meeyamgi Fingang Lanmee (KCP-MFL), identified as Khundrakpam Amar @ Kamando Singh of Khangabok Awang Leikai in Thoubal district, was captured from Aihang village along the Indo-Burma Sugnu Road in Thoubal district.

Reports state that the arrested cadre was involved in a kidnapping case registered at the Waikhong police station in Kakching district, which is currently under investigation.

Meanwhile, security forces continue to conduct search operations and area domination in fringe and vulnerable areas across districts. A total of 116 nakas/checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hills and the valley; however, no one was detained during this particular operation.

Furthermore, the movement of 196 vehicles carrying essential items along NH-37 has been ensured. Strict security measures are in place at all vulnerable locations, and security convoys are being provided on sensitive stretches to ensure free and safe movement.
