Guwahati: A total of 33 hydropower projects are currently being developed in Arunachal Pradesh, with their combined generation capacity estimated at 19,165 megawatts.
Information shared by the stateโs hydropower department during the recently concluded budget session of the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly revealed that only five hydropower projects have been completed so far.
The details were provided in response to a query raised by MLA Wanglin Lowangdong.
The operational projects in the state include Dikshi Hydropower Project (24 MW), Kameng Hydroelectric Project (600 MW), Khangtang Hydropower Project (7 MW), Lower Panyor Hydropower Project (405 MW), and Pare Hydropower Project (110 MW).
Among the agencies involved, North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited currently has the highest number of projects in the state, handling 11 schemes.
Of these, three have already started operations. It is followed by Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited with five projects, while NHPC Limited is implementing three projects.
Once finished, the Dibang Multipurpose Project, designed to generate 2,880 MW of electricity, is expected to become the largest hydropower facility in Arunachal Pradesh.
The hydropower department also stated that the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, located on the boundary between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh in Kamle district, is nearing completion.
Work has progressed significantly, and the plantโs generating units are being brought into operation one after another.
The power plant is designed to generate 2,000 MW of electricity in total, with production divided among eight generating units rated at 250 MW each.
