Dimapur: The April 9 byelection to Nagaland’s Koridang Assembly constituency in Mokokchung district is all set to witness a multi-cornered contest, with the BJP, Congress, National Peopleโ€™s Party (NPP), and three other candidates declaring their candidature.

While the BJP has fielded former MLA Imkong L Imchenโ€™s son, Daochier I Imchen, Congress has declared T Chalukumba Ao as its nominee, the NPP has named I Abenjang as its candidate, and three other candidates, Imtiwapang, Imchatoba Imchen, and Maj. (retd) Toshikaba, will also be in the fray.

The Koridang seat has a total of 22,390 eligible voters who will decide the fate of the contesting candidates.

The last date for filing nominations is March 23, the scrutiny of nominations will take place on March 24, and the final date for withdrawal of candidatures is March 26.

The byelection to the constituency was necessitated following the death of sitting MLA Imkong L Imchen in November last year.

Meanwhile, the BJP has submitted its list of star campaigners to the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the upcoming byelection.

The party, in its letter to the ECI, named Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, BJP Nagaland president Benjamin Yepthomi, party national spokesperson Sambit Patra, national secretary Anil K Antony, ministers Temjen Imna Along, P Paiwang Konyak, and Jacob Zhimomi, and Rajya Sabha MP Phangnon Konyak, among others.
