Guwahati: Kunki Chowdhury, the โGen Zโ Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) candidate for Guwahati Central (36), filed her nomination on Monday, March 23, for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.
Chowdhury is contesting under a broader opposition alliance that includes the Indian National Congress, Raijor Dal, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Communist Party of India (MarxistโLeninist), and the All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC), signalling a coordinated effort to consolidate opposition strength in key constituencies.

Earlier on Sunday, 22 March, Chowdhury spoke about the significance of the day: โI am entering this battle for the very first time, and I do so with the hope of bringing a new vision to the Guwahati Central Constituency. Tomorrow, as I head to the District Commissionerโs office, I carry with me the aspirations of every resident who seeks change.โ
She added, โI have spent the last few days seeking the blessings of our elders and the support of our youth. On this journey, I humbly request my mothers, sisters, and young friends to stand by me.”
Chowdhury chose not to hold a large rally, explaining that her decision follows instructions from the Election Commission and Kamrup Metropolitan administration to prevent overcrowding on the final day of nominations.
She told reporters, โI will follow the rules set by the authorities and seek the support of the people as I file my nomination,โ breaking from the usual noisy campaign gatherings.
The administration had imposed crowd-control measures under Section 163 of the BNSS, 2023, near key areas, including the District Commissionerโs office on Hengrabari Road, to manage traffic and ensure smooth election procedures.
By following the advisory, Chowdhury demonstrated her commitment to disciplined campaigning amid rising election activity across Assam.
