Dibrugarh: Residents of Jungaon under Haldibari Panchayat in the Khowang Legislative Assembly constituency have threatened to boycott the upcoming Assam assembly election, demanding a concrete road and drinking water facilities.

The agitated residents staged a protest today against the dilapidated road and warned of a possible poll boycott.

The villagers said that despite submitting several applications and requests to Khowang MLA Chakradhar Gogoi, no action was taken.

They alleged that the MLA threatened them with arrests if they continued to approach him on the issue.

โ€œWhen we requested him, MLA Chakradhar Gogoi asked if he should construct the road by selling the paddy in his storehouse,โ€ a villager said.

The protesting villagers also complained about the lack of drinking water and added, โ€œWe came to know that money was sanctioned for our village under the Jal Jeevan Mission, but no progress has been made on the project.โ€

The Jungaon residents threatened to boycott the Assam Assembly Election 2026 and restrict the entry of poll candidates into the village unless a written assurance for a concrete road was provided.

โ€œChakradhar Gogoi has failed to address the problems of the people. In the last 10 years, compared to other BJP MLAs, he has not constructed the roads. We want our problems to be addressed on a priority basis,โ€ alleged a local resident.
