Agartala: Tripura government on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Ramakrishna Mission and Math, Viveknagar, for setting up a School of Languages and a Centre of Human Excellence in the state.

The agreement was signed between the Directorate of Skill Development and the Ramakrishna Mission at a programme held at the Civil Secretariat here in the presence of Chief Minister Manik Saha, Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma and senior officials.

Addressing the gathering, Industries and Commerce Department Secretary Kiran Gitte said the proposed institution would be the first of its kind in the Northeast and is expected to become operational within the next two months.

He said all necessary approvals for the project had been obtained from the Finance Department and the Law Department, while the Directorate of Skill Development would identify and select candidates for the courses to be offered.

A representative of the Ramakrishna Mission said the organisation currently conducts language training in 18 languages through its centres in Hyderabad and Kolkata and plans to start classes at its Gangail campus in Agartala within two months.

The official said the institution would cater to learners from Tripura as well as other northeastern states and would have facilities such as a digital library, smart classrooms and a meditation centre.

Speaking on the occasion, Saha said the initiative would contribute to skill development and help equip young people with language and communication skills relevant to emerging employment opportunities.

He said Tripura’s location under India’s Act East Policy offered opportunities in sectors such as tourism, hospitality, trade and technology, making multilingual skills increasingly important.

According to officials, the School of Languages will offer training in foreign languages, including German, French, Japanese and Spanish, besides Indian languages such as Sanskrit, Hindi and Tamil.

The Centre of Human Excellence will focus on personality development, leadership training, communication skills and value-based education, they said.

The Chief Minister said the state government remained committed to promoting skill development and employability through partnerships and capacity-building initiatives.

Officials said the institution is expected to serve learners from across the Northeast after becoming operational.
