Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court is scheduled to hear the bail plea of Siddhartha Sharma, one of the prime accused in the alleged death case involving Assam’s cultural icon Zubeen Garg, on June 4.
According to sources, the matter has been listed before the bench of Justice Parthivjyoti Saikia.
Sharma, the former manager of Zubeen Garg, approached the High Court after a fast-track court rejected his bail application, citing the seriousness of the allegations and the ongoing investigation.
He is among the key accused in the high-profile case, which has attracted significant public attention across Assam.
The development comes shortly after the Gauhati High Court rejected the bail plea of North East India Festival (NEIF) organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, another prime accused in the case. Mahanta’s bail application had earlier also been rejected by a fast-track court.
Following the High Court’s rejection of Mahanta’s plea, Special Public Prosecutor Ziaul Kamar had said the proceedings would now increasingly move towards the trial stage.
“The next date fixed in the matter is June 8, when witnesses are expected to be called for examination. This is only one stage of the proceedings. The more significant phase is the trial itself, during which the court will hear witnesses, evaluate the evidence placed on record and thereafter arrive at a final decision,” Kamar had said on May 29.
In a related development, a fast-track court on May 29 rejected the bail plea of Shekharjyoti Goswami, who is accused of unlawfully using musical equipment and other resources linked to Garg’s studio for personal gain.
The case has triggered widespread public reaction, with family members and supporters of Garg demanding accountability and closely monitoring the legal proceedings.
