Imphal: Security forces arrested seven individuals, including a Village Defence Force (VDF) personnel, during separate operations across Manipur’s valley districts in the past 24 hours, officials said on Tuesday.
In the first operation, two persons were arrested near Catholic Medical Centre (CMC) Hospital in Imphal East district. They were identified as Purna Bahadur Karke (40) of Kanglatongbi Hatik Khuwa, a VDF personnel posted in Kangpokpi district, and Lovingson (37) of Kanglatongbi Santipur.
Security forces seized 1.425 kg of suspected brown sugar, including the weight of a carry bag, along with a Honda Activa scooter from their possession.
In a separate operation, Manipur Police arrested Bramacharimayum Sana Sharma alias Ibungo alias Manisana (38), an active cadre of the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL).
He was apprehended from the CDO Imphal West office complex at Minuthong under Imphal Police Station jurisdiction.
He is a resident of Mayang Imphal Bazar and was currently staying at Mayang Imphal Thana Awang Leikai.
In another operation, police arrested four persons from different locations in Imphal city for illegal liquor sales and seized a large quantity of illicit alcohol.
The arrested persons are Polem Diamond Singh (30) of Thangmeiband Polem Leikai, Moirangthem Dingku Singh (26) of Moirang Sendra, Moirangthem Lalhaiba (33) of Bamon Leikai, and Laishram Romesh Singh (43) of Sugnu Napat Mayai Leikai.
Security forces also continued search and area domination operations across vulnerable and fringe areas. They ensured the movement of 289 vehicles carrying essential goods along NH-37 with proper security escorts.
A total of 114 nakas and checkpoints have been set up across hill and valley districts to strengthen security.
