Guwahati: One woman was killed and another was seriously injured after a passenger train hit a four-wheeler in Assam’s Jonai on Friday.
The mishap occurred at Dekapam in Dhemaji district’s Jonai subdivision.
Reports indicate that the vehicle was attempting to pass through an unmanned railway crossing when the Ledo–Murkongselek passenger train was approaching the stretch.
The train hit the car and pushed it along the tracks, resulting in extensive damage.
A woman identified as Riba from Tajgaon in Arunachal Pradesh died at the site, officials confirmed.
The second occupant of the vehicle sustained critical injuries and was first taken to a nearby hospital before being shifted to Dibrugarh for further treatment.
Soon after the accident, police arrived at the location and initiated an investigation. A bulldozer was later used to clear the wreckage from the railway line to restore train movement.
Officials are continuing to look into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
