Digboi: Sorita Shrestha of Arunachal Pradesh won a gold medal in the K1-48 kg category at the WAKO India National Junior Kickboxing Championship 2026 held in Odisha from May 30 to June 3.

The championship was organised by the Amateur Kickboxing Association of Odisha and recognised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.

A resident of Kharsang in Changlang district, Sorita is the daughter of Shibu Kumar Shrestha and Kalpana Shrestha. She secured the national title after competing against some of the country’s top junior kickboxers in her weight category.

Sorita has been training at the Extreme Martial Arts and Fitness Centre (EMFC), Kharsang, for more than two years and has represented Arunachal Pradesh in several regional and national competitions.

Her coaches, Sarat Sonowal and Samnong Hakhun, guided her preparation for the championship. She also received support from Charu Govind, State Secretary General of the Kickboxing Association of Arunachal (KAA), and Gopal Moran, Technical Director of the KAA.

The gold medal has drawn congratulations from across Changlang district and the state’s sporting community. Her victory adds to Arunachal Pradesh’s achievements in kickboxing at the national level.
