Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has assured strict and swift action against those responsible for the abduction and killing of six Naga men whose mutilated bodies were recently recovered in Kangpokpi district. Condemning the incident in the strongest terms, the Chief Minister announced that the investigation has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to ensure a thorough and impartial probe.
In an official statement, Singh reiterated the state government’s zero-tolerance stance towards such acts of violence and said those involved would be identified, arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The six victims-Pastor Kenpibou, Phenrongwi Thiumai, Rev. Dr. Manu Thiumai, Dilip Thiumai, Kaliwangbou Abonmai and Ch. Phenrilung were allegedly abducted by suspected armed militants from Leilon Vaiphei village in Kangpokpi district on May 13.
Following extensive search operations by security forces, the bodies of the victims were recovered from the district. Reports indicated that the men had been subjected to severe torture before their deaths.
To ensure transparency and accountability in the investigation, the state government has formally transferred the case to the NIA.
The Chief Minister also condemned the killing of a farmer from Lansan Kuki village under Tamei Police Station in Tamenglong district. The farmer was allegedly murdered by suspected armed miscreants on June 9.
Expressing his condolences to the bereaved family, Singh assured that every effort would be made to bring those responsible for the crime to justice and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state.
