Guwahati: An Indian Air Force transport plane crashed at the Air Force Station in Assamโs Jorhat on Saturday, triggering a fire at the site.
The aircraft went down inside the base premises, after which flames erupted following the impact, officials said.
Emergency teams were immediately deployed to the location to douse the fire and secure the area.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined, and there is no confirmation of casualties or injuries at this stage.
The Indian Air Force has acknowledged the incident and said a detailed update will be shared after an initial assessment. An investigation has also been initiated.
The aircraft involved was an Antonov An-32, a twin-engine military transport plane widely used by the Indian Air Force for logistics and supply operations.
The aircraft is capable of carrying around 7.5 tonnes of cargo, 50 personnel, or 42 paratroopers, and is designed for operations from high-altitude and other challenging airfields.
This incident comes months after another Indian Air Force crash in Assamโs Karbi Anglong district in which two pilots were killed when a Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jet went down.
A twin-seat fighter aircraft took off from Jorhat Air Force Station on a routine sortie, on March 5, but lost contact with ground control during the mission.
It subsequently went off radar and was later found to have crashed in a remote hilly area of Karbi Anglong district, about 60 km from Jorhat.
