Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Thursday reviewed the proposed Rs 44,800-crore railway line from Sairang to Hmawngbuchhuah and 53 major projects funded under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) during the third meeting of the Mizoram Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation (Mi-PRAGATI).

Held at the Chief Minister’s Conference Hall, the meeting focused on the progress of key infrastructure and development projects and measures to expedite their implementation.

Officials reviewed 53 projects funded by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development under the RIDF, each valued at more than Rs 3 crore. Progress of the projects, causes of delays and measures to accelerate their execution were discussed.

Railway officials presented details of the proposed 224-km railway line from Sairang to Hmawngbuchhuah in Lawngtlai district, estimated to cost around Rs 44,800 crore. The project is expected to have 20 stations across the state.

Officials also informed the meeting that the proposed Thenzawl railway station could be shifted closer to Thenzawl town following earlier suggestions made by the Chief Minister, as the original site was considered too far from the town.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of several flagship initiatives, including the Ropuiliani Tribal Freedom Fighter Museum, the State Tribal Institute, PM SHRI programmes, Swachh Bharat Mission projects, the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project and major works being implemented by the Public Works Department.

Officials discussed challenges affecting project execution and identified works requiring closer monitoring to ensure timely completion.
