Guwahati: Mizo National Front (MNF) president and former Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga on Monday asserted that the party is actively preparing to return to power in the state and called upon party workers and supporters to remain united and steadfast.

Addressing a party function at the MNF office in Aizawl, Zoramthanga said the party has already begun laying the groundwork for future electoral contests.

“The MNF is preparing itself to form the government again. Necessary steps are being taken in that direction, and I urge party members to remain united, committed, and firm in their faith,” he said.

The veteran leader also spoke about the importance of peace in Mizoram, describing it as a divine blessing that carries with it a responsibility to promote harmony and goodwill.

“The peace God has given us is not merely for our own benefit. It has been granted so that we may continue to share the good news of peace with others,” he said.

Zoramthanga claimed that the value of peace is increasingly being recognised around the world and highlighted the historic role played by the MNF in bringing lasting peace to Mizoram following decades of insurgency.

Emphasising the party’s core principles, he said the MNF’s identity is rooted in its commitment to God and the welfare of the Mizo people.

“The MNF has no special glory of its own. What sets us apart is our dedication to God and our land. Although there are times when we face setbacks, our faith in God has remained unwavering, and it is the Lord who lifts us up again,” he said.

The former Chief Minister also revealed that he recently visited New Delhi, where he held meetings with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and several other national leaders.

The MNF is currently part of the BJP-led North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) and remains an ally of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre.

At present, the party holds 10 seats in the 40-member Mizoram Legislative Assembly. The next Assembly election in the state is scheduled to be held in 2028.

Zoramthanga’s remarks come as the opposition MNF seeks to strengthen its organisational base and position itself for the next electoral battle in Mizoram.
