Guwahati: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Nalbari police seized a large quantity of suspected heroin and arrested two individuals during an anti-narcotics operation in Assam.
According to information shared by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on social media platform X, the narcotics consignment was intercepted before it could be distributed. Police recovered approximately 211.5 grams of suspected heroin, which had been concealed inside 16 soap cases.
Officials estimated the value of the seized contraband at around Rs 1.48 crore in the illicit drug market.
Two suspects were taken into custody in connection with the seizure. Police have launched a detailed investigation to identify other individuals involved and uncover the larger network behind the trafficking operation.
Commending the successful operation, Chief Minister Sarma lauded the efforts of Assam Police in their ongoing campaign against the drug menace. He reiterated the government’s commitment to curbing narcotics-related crimes and ensuring that such illegal substances do not reach communities across the state.
The latest seizure adds to a series of anti-drug operations carried out by Assam Police as part of the state’s intensified drive against narcotics trafficking.
