North Lakhimpur: Three members of a family were killed and another person was critically injured after a lightning strike at Debera Doloni in Rangsali village on the southwestern outskirts of Assamโ€™s North Lakhimpur town on Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as Soul Horo, Jackson Karketta, and Jayanti Toppo.

According to reports, Soul Horo and Jackson Karketta were working in their paddy field when Jayanti Toppo arrived with lunch around 1:30 pm.

The trio was struck by lightning during the sudden weather event and died on the spot.

Another person sustained critical injuries in the incident.

Family members alleged that the victims could not be shifted for medical treatment in time due to the poor condition of the village road, which delayed the arrival of an ambulance.

The incident marks the second fatal lightning strike in Lakhimpur district within a month. On June 7, 75-year-old Jatin Gogoi died after being struck by lightning while working in his paddy field in Bihpuria.
