Agartala: Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi on Monday praised Tripura’s child care system, describing the state’s Child Care Institutions (CCIs) as a model that could be replicated across the country.

During her visit to several welfare facilities in Agartala, the minister reviewed infrastructure, service delivery, and ongoing development projects aimed at supporting women and children.

She inspected the Girls’ Unit-II Child Care Institution at Abhoynagar, the Saksham Anganwadi Centre attached to the Mahila Ashram, and the under-construction Working Women’s Hostel.

The Union minister interacted with officials and assessed the quality of services being provided at the institutions.

Speaking to reporters after the visit, she said Tripura had developed an effective child care system that could serve as an example for other states.

She said the practices adopted in Tripura should be studied and shared widely, adding that she would encourage other states to visit the state to understand its child care model.

Highlighting her interaction with children staying at the institution, Annapurna Devi said the facilities were not limited to formal education alone.

According to her, the children are also being exposed to skill-based activities and vocational training that could help them pursue different career opportunities in the future.

The minister emphasised that the exchange of successful models among states plays an important role in improving welfare services across the country.

She noted that Tripura’s approach to child welfare and rehabilitation could offer valuable lessons to other regions.

On future improvements, she said both the Centre and the state government would continue to strengthen services and upgrade operational systems in line with changing needs. Ensuring quality care, education, and skill development for children remains a priority, she added.

The Union minister also stressed the importance of creating opportunities for education, employment, and skill development so that children can become productive contributors to society.

Tripura Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy and Social Welfare and Social Education Department Secretary Tapan Das accompanied the minister during her visit to the facilities.

Earlier in the day, Annapurna Devi offered prayers at the Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur.
