Imphal: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, a joint team of security forces arrested two persons, including a woman, and seized 530 grams of suspected brown sugar at the T. Khullen Naka Checkpoint in Manipur’s Senapati district.
The operation was carried out on June 29, 2026, at around 8:00 a.m. during a routine vehicle checking drive conducted by personnel from the Special Operation Team (SOT) of Senapati Police, the Senapati Women Police Station, D-78 Battalion CRPF, and the Quick Action Team (QAT) of B-109 CRPF.
During the operation, the team intercepted a Tata Yodha vehicle (registration number MN06LA-3305) and conducted a detailed search. Officials recovered 42 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar weighing approximately 530 grams, including the weight of the plastic packaging.
The occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody and identified as Helkho Kipgen (45), son of Paolal Kipgen and a resident of Keithelmanbi village, and Hatneilhing Kipgen (40), wife of Tongsei Kipgen from Hengbung village. Both are residents of Kangpokpi district.
Apart from the suspected narcotics, police also seized the Tata Yodha vehicle, its ignition key, a green sack, two mobile phones, an Aadhaar card, and a woman’s purse containing Rs. 5,000 in cash.
A case has been registered at Senapati Police Station, and further investigation is underway to trace the source of the contraband and identify others linked to the alleged drug trafficking network.
In a separate development, Senapati Police recovered two lost mobile phones, an Oppo A5 and a Nothing 2a 5G and returned them to their rightful owners. The handsets, reported missing through General Diary (GD) entries at Senapati Police Station, were traced with technical assistance from the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) and police personnel before being handed over to the owners on Monday. The recovery reflects the police’s continued efforts to assist the public alongside their law enforcement duties.
