Guwahati: A man accused of posing as a doctor died on Tuesday, June 30, after suffering a medical emergency while in judicial custody at Assam’s Kokrajhar Jail, officials said.

The deceased, identified as Rabindra Chandra Nag, was arrested by Kajalgaon Police on June 25.

According to officials, an FIR had been lodged against Nag by the Assam Council of Medical Registration.

He was apprehended from Dhaligaon and produced before the court on the same day, after which he was remanded to judicial custody and lodged at Kokrajhar Jail.

Officials said the accused suffered a cardiac emergency inside the jail premises in the early hours of Tuesday.

He was immediately shifted to Kokrajhar Medical College by the police.

However, despite receiving medical treatment, he succumbed to his condition at around 7:30 a.m.

Further investigation into the custodial death is expected.
