Dibrugarh: ย State Health Minister Ashok Singhal on Monday visited Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh and inspected the Super Speciality Block, Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Block, and the Casualty Ward.
He interacted with admitted patients to assess the quality of medical services, availability of medicines, cleanliness, and other facilities. He also chaired a high-level review meeting aimed at transforming the institution into one of the top 50 medical colleges in the country.
The Principal, Superintendent, Heads of Departments, professors, and senior doctors of AMCH attended the meeting, where a detailed assessment of the hospitalโs infrastructure, human resources, patient care management, and ongoing expansion projects was carried out.
The minister issued several strategic directions to further improve healthcare services.
Later, he chaired another review meeting with officials of the Dibrugarh District Health and Family Welfare Department to review the progress of key health indicators, including NCD (Non-Communicable Diseases) screening, the tuberculosis eradication campaign, and maternal and child health programmes.
He urged officials to ensure quality healthcare services by meeting targets within deadlines, increasing field-level supervision, and strengthening accountability.
The minister lauded the dedication and hard work of the doctors, nurses, healthcare workers of AMCH, and employees of the Dibrugarh District Health Department, adding that he would visit Dibrugarh again in the near future to review progress in detail.
During the visit, the Health Minister was accompanied by Assamโs Minister for Industries, Commerce and Cultural Affairs Bimal Borah and Dibrugarh constituency MLA Prasanta Phukan.
Commissioner and Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department P. Ashok Babu, Additional Secretary Dr. Pranati Gogoi, Director of Medical Education Dr. Manoj Kumar Choudhury, Director of Health Services (Family Welfare) Kamaljit Talukdar, and Additional Commissioner of Dibrugarh District Pranjal Baruah were present.
Senior officials of the Health Department, including Joint Director of Health Services Dr. Trishna Borah and members of the NHM District Programme Management Unit (DPMU), also attended the meeting and presented data and progress reports on various aspects of healthcare services in the district.
