Aizawl: A joint team of the Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police seized heroin worth Rs 1.13 crore and arrested a woman from Manipur during an intelligence-based operation at Seling in Mizoram’s Aizawl district.

The operation was launched on Monday following specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of narcotics through the area, the paramilitary force said in a statement.

Personnel of the Assam Rifles, in coordination with Mizoram Police at the Seling check post, carried out a search operation during which they recovered 150.97 grams of heroin valued at Rs 1.13 crore.

The accused, a woman from Chandel district in Manipur, was allegedly transporting the narcotic substance illegally, the statement said. One mobile phone was also seized from her possession.

The seized heroin, the mobile phone and the accused were handed over to the state police on the same day for further investigation and legal proceedings.

The Assam Rifles said the operation reflected its continued coordination with the Mizoram Police and other law enforcement agencies in efforts to curb narcotics trafficking in the state.

The force also reiterated its commitment to strengthening security along the Indo-Myanmar border and preventing the movement of illegal drugs.
