Guwahati: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has completed a strategically significant 180-foot Bailey bridge in Arunachal Pradesh‘s remote Kurung Kumey district, improving connectivity to border areas and facilitating the movement of troops, supplies and civilians.

Constructed in one of the state’s most challenging terrains, the bridge was completed despite persistent monsoon rains, difficult weather conditions, and logistical constraints. The structure replaces a damaged crossing and restores an important transportation link connecting isolated frontier villages with the rest of the region.

The project was executed by the BRO’s 756 Task Force and 85 Road Construction Company (RCC) under Project Arunank, which is tasked with developing strategic road infrastructure across Arunachal Pradesh. The initiative has played a crucial role in strengthening connectivity in border districts through the construction of roads, bridges, and other vital infrastructure.

Officials said the new Bailey bridge will significantly improve operational readiness by allowing faster deployment of security personnel, military vehicles, and essential equipment to forward locations. The enhanced route is also expected to benefit residents of remote villages by ensuring more reliable access to healthcare facilities, schools, markets and government services throughout the year.

The completion of the bridge highlights the BRO’s continued efforts to overcome geographical and climatic challenges while expanding strategic infrastructure in India’s northeastern frontier. Such projects are considered vital not only for national security but also for promoting socio-economic development in remote border communities.

The bridge forms part of the BRO’s broader programme to strengthen border connectivity through durable, all-weather infrastructure, supporting both defence preparedness and regional development in Arunachal Pradesh.
