Meghalaya State Swimming Championship
Over 100 swimmers competed in the 19th Meghalaya State Swimming Championship, highlighting the sport's growing popularity.

Guwahati: The 19th edition of the Meghalaya State Swimming Championship concluded with enthusiastic participation by more than 100 swimmers representing different parts of the state, underscoring the sport’s steady growth in Meghalaya.

Organised by the Meghalaya Swimming Association (MSA), the championship featured competitions across multiple age groups, with athletes competing in a range of events for top honours. The tournament concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where winners were presented with gold, silver and bronze medals for their performances.

Addressing the closing ceremony, Assistant Director of the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Meghalaya, PB War Nongbri said the increasing turnout at the state championship reflects the expanding popularity of swimming among young athletes in the state.

He noted that state-level competitions provide an important platform for identifying promising talent while helping swimmers gain valuable competitive experience before advancing to regional and national championships.

Nongbri also expressed optimism that the tournament would motivate more aspiring swimmers to pursue the sport and represent Meghalaya at higher levels in the future.

The Meghalaya Swimming Association said the annual championship continues to serve as a key stepping stone for emerging athletes, offering them an opportunity to test their abilities against the state’s best swimmers. The association added that the growing participation each year underscores the sport’s increasing reach and the rising interest among youngsters across Meghalaya.
