Doomdooma: Assam Police arrested two youths and seized a country-made pistol along with four rounds of live ammunition during an intelligence-led operation in Chirang district on Wednesday.
The operation was conducted near Kalpani Beel at No. 3 Goraimari under Panbari Police Station in Bijni subdivision after police received specific intelligence about the movement of suspected individuals carrying illegal arms.
Acting swiftly, the team intercepted a motorcycle (registration number AS26A6910) travelling from Bawpara village towards Palengbari and detained its two occupants.
The arrested persons were identified as Sukur Ali and Abbas Ali, both residents of Bawpara village.
A search of their possession led to the recovery of a country-made pistol and four rounds of live ammunition, which were immediately seized as evidence.
The operation was led by Panbari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Binoy Malakar and Sub-Inspector Anwar Hussain, in the presence of Bijni Sub-Divisional Police Officer Rupjyoti Dutta and Panbari Circle Officer Ritul Muni Das, reflecting the coordinated nature of the intelligence-led action.
Police have registered a case and launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the origin of the firearm and ammunition.
Investigators are also probing whether the accused had links with an organised illegal arms network or were involved in supplying or transporting weapons for criminal activities.
