Agartala: Heavy rainfall triggered by an active southwest monsoon has affected several parts of Tripura, with the weather office issuing an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall across the state.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data, Chhamanu in Dhalai district recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 139.2 mm during the last 24 hours.
The heavy rain has also caused flooding in parts of Dhalai district. At least 17 families from Dhanya Ram Karbari Para under Chawmanu block were forced to leave their homes after floodwaters inundated the area. They have taken shelter in a rest house at the local school ground.
Locals said several families were unable to bring their belongings as water entered their houses. They expressed apprehension that more families may have to evacuate if the rainfall continues and alleged that no government official had visited them until the time of reporting.
Rainfall exceeding 100 mm was also recorded at Ambassa (110.6 mm), Gandacherra (102.5 mm) in Dhalai district, Lembucherra (105.5 mm) in West Tripura district and the District Magistrateโs office area in Agartala (102 mm).
In West Tripura district, the Secretariat recorded 95.5 mm of rainfall, followed by Agartala airport (88.5 mm), Hezamara (82.8 mm) and Howrah (81.8 mm).
Besides Chhamanu, Dhalai district received 110.6 mm of rainfall at Ambassa, 102.5 mm at Gandacherra and 100.2 mm at Manughat. Kamalpur recorded 36 mm of rainfall, while no rainfall was reported from Chailengta.
In Unakoti district, Kumarghat received 92.5 mm of rainfall, followed by Nidebi (85.2 mm), Kailashahar (58.8 mm), and Dashamighat and Nutanbazar (46.2 mm each).
South Tripura district recorded 87 mm of rainfall at Satchand, followed by Bagafa (56.2 mm), Belonia (53.4 mm) and Rajnagar (19.4 mm).
In North Tripura district, Kadamtala and Churaibari recorded 58.5 mm each, while Panisagar received 56.5 mm and Ashapara 49.5 mm.
Khowai district received rainfall ranging between 28.4 mm and 55.5 mm, while Gomati district recorded 55.6 mm at Amarpur and 45.6 mm at Udaipur. Sepahijala district received comparatively lower rainfall, with Bishalgarh recording 2.4 mm and Sonamura-Mohanbhog receiving 39.6 mm.
The IMD said the southwest monsoon remains active over Tripura and forecast intermittent spells of heavy rainfall in different districts over the next few days.
It advised authorities to remain alert in flood-prone low-lying areas and landslide-prone hilly regions.
There was no immediate response from the administration regarding the villagersโ allegations.
