Imphal: A joint team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has arrested two suspects in connection with the abduction and killing of six Naga civilians in Manipur, as security forces continue their search for five other accused.
According to Police, the suspects, identified as Pradip and his wife Ayingbi, both residents of Leilon Vaiphei village in Kangpokpi district, were apprehended during an early morning operation on July 10. The operation was carried out on the basis of specific intelligence in the village, which falls under Leimakhong Police Station. Police said search, seizure and other legal formalities were completed during the operation.
The case relates to the abduction of six Naga men from Leilon Vaiphei on May 13. Their mutilated bodies were recovered nearly a month later on June 10, triggering widespread outrage across Manipur. The National Investigation Agency subsequently took over the probe.
Earlier, addressing protesters at Namdilong in Imphal West, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said the investigation was progressing and assured that justice would be delivered. He said security agencies were actively pursuing five other militants identified in connection with the abduction and killings.
Police said search operations are continuing in parts of Kangpokpi district to apprehend the remaining accused.
