Imphal: The Manipur government, under Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, has implemented a five-day work week (Monday to Friday) for state employees, effective July 11, 2026.

The revised schedule, aimed at improving work-life balance, designates Saturdays as general holidays. However, working Saturdays may be mandated occasionally based on administrative requirements.

According to an official notification, office hours will be from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm during summer and from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm during winter.

The order applies to all state government offices, autonomous bodies, institutions, corporations, societies, boards, and public sector undertakings (PSUs).

Despite the introduction of the five-day work week, the Manipur Government Services Federation (MGSF) has intensified its indefinite cease-work strike, which entered its ninth day, as the state government has not yet addressed its seven-point charter of demands.

The federation’s three immediate priorities include raising the retirement age of government employees from 60 to 62 years, increasing Dearness Allowance (DA)/Dearness Relief (DR) to bring it on par with Central Government employees, and restoring Saturday as a permanent weekly holiday amid concerns that it could be affected by future administrative decisions.
